THE PROCEDURE: WHAT TO EXPECT
Implant Exchange is performed under general anesthesia in an outpatient facility. The length and complexity of your breast implant revision depend on the condition of your current implants and the surgical plan. Regardless of the complexity, the ultimate goal of your breast revision is to restore both your confidence and your desired aesthetic outcome.
- Simple Implant Exchange: If your procedure involves replacing implants without a lift, Dr. Anton often uses your previous incision site, minimizing the creation of new scars. This approach is ideal if you’re happy with your current breast size and shape and simply want to replace your implants.
- Implant Exchange with Lift: If a breast lift is needed, there are a variety of options including more superficial nipple areolar lifts or the Super Breast Lift. Incisions will vary based on the degree of lift required.
BREAST IMPLANT EXCHANGE RECOVERY
Most patients wake from breast revision surgery feeling groggy, tired, and wanting to rest. You will be wrapped in a compression bandage and may feel some mild to moderate pain that is easily alleviated with prescribed pain medication.
Overall, most patients feel their surgery was less painful than anticipated and can discontinue their pain medication after 4-5 days. It is common for breasts to feel tight especially immediately after surgery, this gradually subsides during the healing process. Approximately, within one to two weeks, implants tend to relax into their proper position and move freely. This process can take longer in certain patients.
