The Regimens That Save Sun-Damaged Skin
Melasma – Also known as the “pregnancy mask” is different from hyperpigmentation in that its primary cause is hormone related. Melasma should primarily be treated with Chemical Peels like Glycolic, Salicylic, Lactic, Arbutase or a combination thereof, plus home care products. Treatments that heat the dermis of the skin, such as Lasers and IPL, can exacerbate the appearance of melasma and should be avoided. Melasma should also be treated internally to achieve the best results. Nutrition plays a key role in balancing hormones and significantly reducing the appearance of melasma.

Hyperpigmentation – Also known as dyschromia, appears as dark spots. Here in the OC because of year round sun exposure, hyperpigmentation is a common concern amongst women and men of all ages and skin types. The darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces skin color, forms deposits in the skin. The sun is the worst culprit in causing hyper pigmentation, but nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin D can also contribute. Unlike melasma, hyperpigmentation can be treated with Lasers, IPL along with chemical peels, CORE, and GliSODin products.

Dry Skin – Many factors contribute to dry skin including harsh soaps, long, hot showers and especially sun exposure. Dry skin is the result of the natural lipids that protect your skin being stripped away, leaving your skin exposed to the elements. Dry skin doesn’t cause wrinkles (see below) but it sure can worsen the appearance of fine lines.
