Non-surgical Skin tightening treatments are an increasingly popular approach for patients who want to address the inevitable signs of aging that can develop in the skin.
— Dr. Mark Anton, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon
Unwanted imperfections like loose, sagging, dull skin can distract from patients' natural beauty and leave them looking older than they feel. Thankfully, many high-end treatments exist to help address these common insecurities.
We are living longer, better quality lives. Naturally, we want to look our best as we age. Today’s non-surgical treatments for skin tightening, volumizing, collagen stimulation, and overall rejuvenation, improve the signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, uneven pigment, rough texture, and skin laxity. They can also help prevent further aging. There are numerous modalities to choose from including lasers, radiofrequency, micro-needling, and peels. Plasma Pen fibroblast is the newest technology in the war on wrinkles and treats the many signs of aging in the face and body.
Plasma Pen Newport Beach
The Plasma Pen is an innovative treatment that uses a unique system to convert electrical energy into a powerful gas. This gas, or plasma, is supercharged with electrostatic energy that is then exposed to the epidermis. This non-contact application allows the skin to absorb an arc of plasma created from a combination of oxygen and nitrogen.
Plasma Pen is an FDA approved medical device that converts gas into energy that is transmitted into the skin’s surface without actually touching the skin. There are numerous fibroblast devices on the market today, but only Plasma Pen offers a class 2 medical device that must be operated by a licensed RN or doctor. The Plasma Pen medical device offers more advanced and safer treatments than other products on the market. Plasma Pen works by safely converting gas from the air into diatomic molecular nitrogen.
If this makes you wish you had paid better attention in high school chemistry class, fear not. All you need to know is that Plasma Pen’s delivery system has a fail-safe method that senses when it is at the accurate proximity to the skin before it delivers the energy. If the device is too far or too near to the skin, it simply won’t engage.
This precise and targeted delivery of energy reduces the risk of unnecessary tissue damage that is often associated with CO2 lasers. The energy produced by the Plasma Pen is transmitted through the top layer of skin, the epidermis, to create micro-trauma in the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis, where collagen and elastin are produced. Each point where the plasma energy enters the skin leaves a tiny dot, which eventually becomes a scab in the first day or two after treatment. These scabs protect the skin from infection and clear up within 5-7 days. Meanwhile, the microtraumas caused by the Plasma Pen energy signal the body to stimulate fibroblasts, cells in connective tissue that trigger the growth of collagen and elastin.
The Plasma Pen is a skin enhancement treatment that helps tighten the skin in target areas and address concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, scars, sagging and thinning in certain areas.
Sometimes known as a Plasma Lift Skin Tightening or Fibroblast Tightening treatment, the Plasma Pen originally gained popularity in Europe among high-end medical enhancement facilities. Today, it is offered in specialized plastic surgery offices in the US, like AestheticMD in Newport Beach. The Plasma Pen is the only FDA approved fibroblast technology on the market today and the only brand that offers a Class 2 device specifically for use only by a licensed nurse or doctor.

Fibroblast treatments including the Plasma Pen are excellent solutions for patients who wish to address common signs of aging within the skin without using dermal fillers or cosmetic surgery. The procedure, however, may not be for everyone, as there is a greater risk of hyperpigmentation or discoloration after recovery with patients who have darker skin tones.
Because Plasma Pen is a more predictable delivery of energy and produces less collateral tissue damage, it offers less risk than some other non surgical procedures. To minimize risk, it is important to meet with one of our Aesthetic MD nurses to determine if you are a good candidate for Plasma Pen.
In general men and women with light to medium skin tones are the best candidates for Plasma Pen. Some darker skin types can be treated by prepping the skin a month ahead of time with a skin lightening agent, a custom compounded ointment containing Vitamin A and Arbutase.
Other contraindications for Plasma Pen include the following:
Additionally, patients who have recently received injectables, are diabetic, are pregnant or nursing, or have taken Accutane in the last 12 months are not ideal candidates. Scheduling a consultation with a plastic surgery facility can help you understand if the Plasma Pen is suitable for you.
The more collagen we produce, the younger our skin looks. The opposite is also true when collagen diminishes, our skin begins to show signs of aging. Have you ever pinched the skin on the back of your hand? When we are young, it can be hard to even grab a pinch of skin because it’s so taught and well hydrated.
The skin bounces right back into place when you find some to squeeze. As we age, the skin gets thinner, drier and much easier to pinch. When released it slowly molds back into position. This is why it’s so important as we age to artificially stimulate collagen and elastin production with non-surgical treatments like Plasma Pen fibroblast and also protect our skin from factors that destroy collagen such as:
Ultraviolet light damage collagen fibroblasts. As collagen breaks down fine lines, then deep wrinkles form and skin tone becomes uneven resulting in hyperpigmentation. This is why it is so important to wear sunscreen on a daily basis--even on rainy days. Make sure your sunscreen has a physical block like zinc or titanium if you want to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays.
Leads to oxidative stress that produces free radicals and destroys collagen. It’s important to drink enough fluids each day to keep your body hydrated and protect your skin from free radical damage with a vitamin C product. Also avoid excessive intake of caffeine and alcohol that dehydrate the skin.
Not only does it directly destroy collagen and elastin plus cause those pesky smoker’s lines, it also diminishes estrogen which helps keep skin firm and supple.
Causes oxidative stress and inflammation, which destroys collagen and slows down its production. Sugar causes AGE – an acronym that stands for accelerated glycation end products.
The Plasma Pen is a highly versatile procedure that can be administered on various parts of the face and body, including:
Additionally, patients who undergo Fibroblast Tightening treatments experience lower risks, minimal side effects, brief downtime, and long-lasting results. When compared to plastic surgery, our Newport Beach Plasma Pen patients also get the added benefit of avoiding incisions, anesthesia, stitches, scaring, and extensive recovery times.

On the day of your Plasma Pen fibroblast treatment, you will arrive 30 minutes early to apply a numbing cream to the treated areas.
Most of our Newport Beach Plasma Pen patients find the numbing cream provides ample comfort and pain management. Nitrous gas, also known as laughing gas, is also available upon request. Patients opting for the nitrous gas do not need a driver to take them home from their appointment. Nitrous gas leaves the body very quickly and after 20 minutes, patients are free to drive themselves home. Once the area is numbed, it is cleaned and prepped for the Aesthetics MD customized Plasma Pen three-step treatment:
First, a lesser intense Plasma Spray covers the entire treated area and provides overall skin rejuvenation. Plasma Spray, over all-over application of energy to the treatment area which can include face, neck, eyelids, forehead, lips, abdomen, and legs. Patients with type 4-5 skin type on the Fitzpatrick Scale who are not candidates for Plasma Pen can receive the Plasma Spray for all-over skin rejuvenation.
Next, the Plasma Pinpoint targets specific fine lines, deeper wrinkles, and acne scars by delivering a focused energy stream. During treatment skin visibly tightens instantaneously. This step is what results in the tiny dots that produce scabs during healing.
The third step is a layering of Anti-Age cytokine solution, stem-cell-based growth factors that nourish fibroblasts to enhance collagen production. We combine Plasma Pen with the power of cytokines, long-chain proteins that communicate with your body’s own cells to produce more collagen. During the treatment, our AntiAge cytokine solution is applied to the treated area. Patients leave with the solution and are instructed to apply every hour or so during the first 24 hours.
Plasma Pen fibroblast treatment has quickly become one of the most sought after skin rejuvenation treatments because of its ability to improve the skin’s overall appearance as well as lift and tighten. Treatment areas can include:
The positive results of a Plasma Pen procedure can often begin to reveal themselves immediately after treatment. However, most patients won’t notice the full results of their treatment for several weeks, as the collagen production begins to amplify within the skin. The results of Fibroblast Tightening are permanent, but they do not stop the natural aging process. Most patients can typically experience improvements in their skin for around two to five years.
After your Plasma Pen fibroblast treatment, your skin will be red, swollen, and present with tiny dot marks scab over in the first few days following treatment, this is when most of the swelling and redness occur. Your skin will be dry, look and feel tight for up to two weeks. You will be instructed not to over hydrate your skin so that scabs can dry up and flake off. It’s important not to pick or rub the scabs as this could cause temporary scarring. You can apply the Anti-Age growth factor formula and CORE raindrops HA formula for hydration.

Many patients experience mild to moderate swelling in the treated area(s). Swelling can last up to 3 days. You may experience a stinging sensation in the treated area immediately after treatment.
The first stage of healing will result in minute dry spots forming in the treatment area. These are called echars and will generally remain there for about a week before falling off. This is normal and temporary, but it is important to avoid any picking or rubbing during this time! Remember, the treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing process to stimulate the repair of fibroblasts and tissue within the skin. As such, most patients won’t realize full results for around eight weeks after their last appointment.
In the weeks following your Plasma Pen fibroblast treatment, your skin will continue to tighten, lift, and improve as the deeper layers of collagen are formed. During your consultation for Plasma Pen in Newport Beach, your treatment program will be decided based on your overall desires and expectations. Some of our patients require two treatments for optimal results; however, significant improvement is seen after just one treatment. Results are natural-looking and last up to three years. Monthly collagen building treatments like Morpheus8, Geneo facials, and IPL as well as daily skincare products will extend and maintain the results of your Plasma Pen treatment.
