Some darker skin types can be treated by prepping the skin a month ahead of time with a skin lightening agent, a custom compounded ointment containing Vitamin A and Arbutase.
This treatment option, however, may not be for everyone, as there is a greater risk of hyperpigmentation or discoloration after recovery with patients who have darker skin tones. During your consultation, your provider will assess any medical conditions you may have to determine if this is the right skin treatment for you.
CONSULTATION, PREPARATION & PROCEDURE
On the day of your Plasma Pen fibroblast treatment, you will arrive 30 minutes early to apply a numbing cream to the treated areas. The Plasma Pen treatment begins with cleansing the skin and applying a numbing cream to ensure comfort.
Most of our Newport Beach Plasma Pen patients find the numbing cream provides ample comfort and pain management. Nitrous gas, also known as laughing gas, is also available upon request. Patients opting for nitrous gas do not need a driver to take them home from their appointment. Nitrous gas leaves the body very quickly and after 20 minutes, patients are free to drive themselves home.

PLASMA PEN RECOVERY
Following treatment, mild redness, swelling, or crusting may occur but typically subside within a few days. Patients should avoid sun exposure and apply sunscreen to protect the skin during the healing phase.
Plasma treatments allow most patients to resume daily activities shortly afterward, depending on their individualized treatment plan and if they wish to have any other additional treatments performed.
To maximize results and support healing patients should avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week post-treatment and use a high-SPF sunscreen regularly. Refrain from using abrasive skincare products for 1-2 week and avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours to prevent increased blood flow to the treated areas.
