It's not for lack of effort on your part. But despite your best intentions and diligence, perhaps you still have frustrating flab in your midsection. It can be maddening. But it can also be "firmly" addressed.
Let's talk tummy tuck.
Our Newport Beach tummy tuck is performed to remove excess loose sagging skin and fat in the abdominal area, which creates a tighter and smoother abdomen. Dr. Anton's signature Triple Tuck Abdominoplasty technique can apply to either a full or modified tummy tuck.
— Dr. Mark Anton, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon
After childbirth, weight gain or with age, the fascial wall, which acts like a corset around the abdominal muscle, can stretch and become loose. No amount of exercise or diet will tighten the fascia and women often complain of having a "pooch" where they once had a flatter stomach. Additionally, the skin becomes loose and saggy.
Tummy tuck — known medically as abdominoplasty — is an elective, cosmetic surgical procedure that flattens and firms your stomach. The result is improved shape, contour, and appearance of your abdomen.
In the Triple Tuck Abdominoplasty, Dr. Anton imbricates the fascial wall and places one suture down the midline of the abdomen. He then adds a suture on either side of the midline to further support and strengthen the fascial wall around the muscle. This procedure allows for a tummy tuck with less pain, no drains, and a more natural abdominal contour as a result. Most commonly, a good candidate for this procedure has one or more of the following concerns:

During your consultation for a tummy tuck Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Dr. Mark Anton will discuss the quality of your abdominal skin, as well as any existing abdominal scars. Have an open and relaxed conversation with Dr. Anton about your goals and realistic expectations. He'll work together with you to select the right procedure and technique for your tummy tuck.
Dr. Anton will carefully review your medical history, including previous surgeries. You will likely be instructed to suspend use of any supplement or medication, such as aspirin, that might elevate surgical bleeding. If you are a smoker but have been cleared for tummy tuck surgery, you will need to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and two weeks after your procedure. You will be encouraged to quit smoking for good.
When a C-Section scar is present, it can often be used as the incision site, elongating the incision on each side. The location of the incision is partially based on personal preference in regards to how low one prefers the incision to be. Incisions are strategically placed and very well concealed in a bathing suit or undergarments. The amount of skin and tissue will determine if you are a candidate for a full or modified Triple Tuck Abdominoplasty.

Start planning and preparing for your recovery BEFORE your surgery. Proper recovery from a tummy tuck is almost as important to optimizing your results and ensuring your safety as is the procedure itself.
First, make sure you have arranged for someone to drive you home after your surgery and that you have plenty of help around the house for at least a week after your tummy tuck.
Use the days and weeks before your procedure to secure and organize all necessary post-surgical supplies such as gauze pads, ice packs, compression garments, and medications. This will greatly reduce post-procedural stress.

The Aesthetics MD signature tummy tuck created by Dr. Anton is called a Triple Tummy Tuck because of its unique internal design that does not require the use of drains and is significantly less painful than traditional tummy tucks.
A traditional tummy tuck uses one internal suture that runs along the midline to bring the fascia wall together and repair diastasis recti (the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominis that meet at the midline of your stomach).
Using a single internal suture can result in a lot of post-operative pain as all the tension is concentrated in one location along the midline. The Triple Tummy Tuck uses three internal sutures to tighten the fascia wall, one down the midline and two on either side. This technique displaces the tension across three locations, which dramatically reduces post-operative pain and recovery time. It also draws the waist in tighter and makes it smaller. Dr. Anton also applies his signature procedure Curved Liposuction to further sculpt the abdomen and waist area.
Externally, the excess abdominal skin is removed with either a modified or full abdominoplasty procedure. In both procedures, the surgeon places an incision around the belly button to release the skin, which is then pulled down like a window shade. A full triple tummy tuck candidate has enough excess skin that the hole from the opening around the old belly button can be pulled down low enough to be excised along the lower abdominal scar.
Generally, a full tummy tuck scar runs along the lowest part of the abdomen horizontally from hip to hip. The length of the scar depends on the amount of skin removed. Extreme weight loss patients will often require more skin to be removed and a scar that travels beyond the hip bone and follows the curve of the body. Regardless of the length, the full tummy tuck incision is placed so that it is strategically concealed below a bathing suit or undergarments and heals with minimal visibility.
A modified triple tummy tuck applies to patients that do not have enough excess skin to be pulled down low enough and removed through the lower abdominal incision. In a modified tummy tuck after the belly button is released and the skin lifted away, a new belly button opening is created. The old opening can be either closed with a vertical scar or excised by raising the lower abdominal incision up. During your consultation for an tummy tuck Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Dr. Anton will review the options of having an extra vertical scar or a higher scar.
A third option exists if the belly button is high enough to relocate the belly button stalk, in what is known as an umbilical float. The procedure may take anywhere from 2 1/2 to 4 hours under general anesthesia. The length of the procedure depends on how much tissue and fat need to be removed and if the muscle wall needs to be tightened. All sutures are placed internally; there are no external sutures.

A mini-tummy tuck is a procedure limited to removing loose skin below your belly button. Your belly button most likely will not need to be moved, and your surgery may not last more than two hours.
Standard and traditional abdominoplasty uses post-surgical drains to siphon off excess blood and fluid. However, the drains can be difficult and frustrating for patients to maintain, presenting hygiene challenges and increasing the risk of infection and other complications.
Dr. Anton exclusively uses a technique that does not require post-surgical drains.

Since Dr. Anton uses minimal incisions and places them discreetly, your tummy tuck scars will be virtually unnoticeable to the world. He will also prescribe a scar reduction program for you to start on the timetable he recommends.
Overall, most of our Newport Beach tummy tuck patients feel their surgery was less painful than anticipated and are able to discontinue their pain medication after 4-5 days. Initially, the abdominal area can feel extremely tight and it may seem difficult to stand up straight, this will gradually subside during the healing process. You will wake from surgery wearing an abdominal compression binder. This binder is worn at all times for two weeks. You will then be instructed to change to a lighter support garment for approximately 2-3 more weeks.
Your activities are restricted for a full two-week period after surgery including; no lifting, bending or straining of any kind. Exercise and movements involving bending or twisting at the waist may be restricted for up to 4 weeks or more depending on healing. You will be advised during your post-operative appointments about these restrictions. The healing process varies from patient to patient and is decided on an individual basis.
While tummy tuck is considered a safe procedure, it requires a meticulous recovery plan and regimen. Recovery times will naturally vary from person to person, and no two tummy tuck surgeries are exactly alike.
Our experienced Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Dr. Anton, will work with you to provide a specific and detailed recovery plan that addresses issues including:
It would be best if you did not drive until you have stopped taking any prescription pain medication, are comfortable behind the wheel, and can make any movement necessary to drive safely.

Remember that while tummy tuck will enhance the benefits of proper diet and exercise, it is not a substitute for them.

Additional risks specific to tummy tuck include:

While tummy tuck tightens abdominal muscles and fascia while removing excess skin, liposuction removes only fat cells. Liposuction can be done alongside your abdominoplasty for even better contouring.

Men and women usually lose several pants sizes, and women typically drop 2-3 dress sizes.
