CASE STUDY
UPPER AND LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY
CASE OVERVIEW
This patient from Oregon admits she was not someone who based herself on the way she looks. “I’m very comfortable with myself,” she adds. But after years of taking care of everyone else in her life, she was hitting a reset button and learning how to take care of herself again. She had not really been bothered by her eyes, until she looked at photos of a recent family vacation. “I put my sunglasses on to take the photos. The eyes are the windows to the soul. I love seeing my husband’s and daughters’ eyes, but here I was covering mine up.”
PATIENT PROFILE
AGE: 53
PRIMARY CONCERNS
This patient had not had any prior surgery or other non-surgical treatments such as lasers or fillers to treat her aging eyes. She was most unhappy with the heavy bags under her eyes. The idea of plastic surgery was not something she was familiar or comfortable with, but her mother-in law had been a patient of Dr. Anton’s and recommended a consultation. “She told me Dr. Anton is the only one she would trust.”
CONSULTATION & ASSESSMENT
Before meeting with Dr. Anton for a virtual consultation, she admits that she felt a little superficial considering plastic surgery. “What really locked it in for me was meeting him. Instantly, I felt a connection. I knew I would be in capable hands.” If not for the encouragement and support of her mother-in-law, who was a previous patient of Dr. Anton’s, she might have waited until she was older or for a better time. “I started to think about my age (53) and that I would probably heal better when I was younger. Plus, if I waited another ten years, the transformation would be more dramatic to the outside world.” As she explained to Dr. Anton, she desired a very natural look that didn’t scream – ‘I had plastic surgery!’ After explaining where the incisions would be placed in the upper and lower eyes, and how he would reposition the fat pad in her lower eyes, they discussed removing two moles from her face.
“For me I saw myself a certain way. Now, I feel like I line up with the way I saw myself.”
TREATMENT PLAN
– Quad Blepharoplasty
– Mole Removal
The skin in the upper eyes was removed along with a strip of muscle. In the lower eyes, the medial and central lateral fat pads released and sewn over the orbital rim. The residual fat was cauterized, and a small strip of muscle removed as well as skin. Moles were removed with a shave technique.
PATIENT RESULTS
HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE?
She admits recovery was a process, but now that she is on the other side, she would consider another procedure one day. “My scars are invisible, and my daughters tell me all the time how happy they are that I did it for myself.” By her birthday a few months later she was feeling really good and this time, when the cameras came out, her sunglasses did not!
